UPDATE REPORT: Chamber of Commerce to Pittsburg City Council (2/19/13)

1.  Our major new program is the "Neighborhood Business/Shop Local" program

  • The Chamber divided Pittsburg into eight different business areas
  • We have started working first with the Highlands Square Center because it is the smallest, has one owner, and had some recent changes. (For our second location we will be meeting with the Oak Hill’s Center at Bailey Rd., East Leland, tomorrow for the first time)
  • At Highland we have met three times so far, with the first meeting discussing whether they wanted to do the program with us. We have had two planning meetings working on an event and advertising, and marketing.
  • We’re going to focus on a marketing program for the whole month of March at Highlands Square Center, with an event being held on March 30 Saturday before Easter.
  • We are working with the Contra Costa Times and Ready Print to do the marketing program. Both are offering substantial discounts to the Highlands Center Businesses.
  • We’ve developed a Facebook page for the Highlands Center and we now have [other] center businesses tying-into the Facebook page.
  • Originally we had planned to do one neighborhood business area [per month], but now we learned how much work it takes to do the first one, so it seems like we may have to go to one every other month.
  • This program is offering real value for Pittsburg businesses and our Chamber members.


2.  Through Google we are offering a free 3-page webpage for small businesses that don’t have their own and the Chamber will help set it up for free

4.  We will continue to do the Seafood Festival this year. 

  • At this time we are looking at two sites; the downtown location that has worked the last two years, and we are looking at the possibility of returning it to the Marina district.


5.  The Chamber is excited about the direction it's heading, 
  • a simpler program, offering far more value to Pittsburg businesses and our members, than we have offered in the past.
