PARENTING, SOCIAL COOPERATION & THE MUSIC OF LIFE

Posted:  24 Oct 14

Purpose

"One man's music is another man's noise." True, but it also depends a lot on how your mind has been prepared to interpret the sounds -- and we do seem to have some degree of control over this self-programming.

This bulletin suggests a way to turn annoying noise (i.e.  child-noise) into beautiful music (the music of life), by merely clicking the internal switch on our mental control panels.

No need letting a public outing be spoiled by annoyance with inevitable child-noise, where "music" is to be found, by means of a minor mental-shift -- or improperly increasing parental angst with demonstrations of said annoyance.

One Way of Looking at the Thing

As long as the volume doesn't move the decibel-meter into the "red zone," I am more than fine with the sound of small children loudly learning how to communicate their feelings in public. In fact, I love it. For, long ago, I thought this through and am totally content.

To me, it's a magnificent and ESSENTIAL part of the "music of life" -- filled with great meaning and surprising intricacy and awesome beauty.

So, in my view, parents should not be unduly alarmed at being at the center of a disturbance.
It's just part of their duties and challenges -- and part of the vital price we should ALL gladly pay to replenish the species properly.

Child-noise is just life being life.

And it's far better than urgent cries from bitterest want, which still trouble our world -- for the time being, only.

ONE OF SOCIETY'S MOST VITAL MISSIONS FOR US

FREE FOR CHILDREN: School Supplies

With another fall school season fast approaching, we can do a lot to help ease parents' minds if we donate what we can toward supplying their little ones for their next big life-adventures.
  • If you are so moved, you might donate book bags, school-work tools, anything to get children excited and delighted about performing their first "jobs" in life.
  • Alas, we may never get to see the spark in their little delighted eyes when they receive these caring expressions, but you can be sure that you will have made a difference -- perhaps all the difference in the world.

AND FOR PARENTS IN NEED -- SEARCH AND ASK, AND YE SHALL RECEIVE... Don't give up!
(Have to look out for one another, don't we?)

AND IF YOU'RE REALLY IN A JAM, CONSIDER THIS:
  • You know that if you are in crises, yoU can call "211" on your phone -- this will connect you to the Crises Center, right?
  • Well, they don't have a program for school supplies, but here is what Blanca, one of their trained specialists, suggests:
  • "Call 211 and see if you can get help on some other vital life expense -- this may free up some of your scarce dollars to allow you to buy those school necessities."
  • Never give up, we are pulling for you -- and when you are stronger, you will do the same for others.  We are all important parts of one GREAT, HUMAN CHAIN-REACTION!!!

I know there are abundant, caring entities out there who make it their task to gather and distribute these donations, efficiently.
  • Here are a few ideas.
  • More will be added as these become known.
  • If you know of others, please feel free to add the information in the comment section, below.

PITTSBURG  (Note: This notice is a re-posting, so the free hair-cuts may no longer be available. Please call to confirm.  This Pittsburg entry is being retained for the historical record.)

Free haircuts for schoolchildren
To help kids look their best for the new school year with a new haircut, Salon Galore in partnership with Alighted Path Foundation is sponsoring their second annual "Glam Day."

  • The event takes place from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 and Aug. 20 at Salon Galore, 3724 Railroad Ave. in Pittsburg. [Owner/manager: Ladarin Williams -- I do know they have already started collecting -- saw one little girl's eyes light up, already]
  • Gift certificates, backpacks will be given away while supplies last and mini-manicures and skin care classes will be offered.
  • While the event is free, donations of school supplies will be accepted to benefit the Pathways Project. To make an appointment for a free haircut, call 925-252-1155.
