Pittsburg's Veterans Day 11/11/14 Ceremony (11am) & Pancake Breakfast (8:30-10)

Posted:  10 Nov 14

HAPPY VETERANS DAY
Both Here, in Pittsburg, CA, and Anywhere Else
That Values the U.S. & Appreciates The Ultimate Price It Deliberately Pays
for Human Well-being and Betterment!

May your enjoyment rest on
the foundation of remembrance, reflection, and awe -- and
refresh you in your daily struggles
for the personal and common good!

1.  We are all invited to "Pittsburg's Veterans Day Ceremony & Pancake Breakfast," a truly lovely two-event set that makes one feel good all year -- about our neighbors and how they truly feel about our common circumstance -- till the next opportunity refills the well.

2.  And please don't forget tomorrow's PITTSBURG POLICE: Swearing-In & Awards Ceremony 11/12/14/WED 10:30 am.

Considering that today celebrates those who stood and fell at the nation's walls and tomorrow celebrates those who did so at our City's walls -- and those who are still in both places -- I'd say the conjunction of events couldn't be much more perfectly timed.

See you there!

David Nelson

ACCUMULATOR -- THE SOCIAL NETWORKS of Pittsburg, CA

Posted:  8 Nov 14

EARLY DRAFT -- I just started thinking about this, in earnest.  This bulletin amounts to a "brain-storming" burst.  Many other bulletins also function this way. And, the information is being released early, in the rough, in case others might find it useful now -- or may wish to contribute useful inputs.  I detoured to do this, but must return to the Civic Mentor Development Priority List -- which is going to make further work on this and much else, far more efficient to develop into their proper final forms. Please be patient.  However, if public response indicates that this should be given a higher priority, I'll try my best to comply.

1.  Purpose

1.1  To accumulate, over time, all in one convenient place, links to all of the social networking services that are being used to unite the people and friends of the City of Pittsburg, CA -- enabling them to more conveniently discover, work out, and build upon their common interests toward their individual and collective well-being and betterment.  THE INTERNET CHANGES EVERYTHING -- it is truly REVOLUTIONARY -- making the previously impossible, completely feasible and immensely desirable.
As relevant links are discovered or created, I hope to add them here (or in even better "homes" in the pipeline) for the stated purpose.  Like all Civic Mentor initiatives, these accumulator-bulletins serve: (1) to place practical things in easy reach and keep them there, without undue delay; (2) to provide conceptual place-holders to help simplify my construction, testing, and refinement of more-permanent, systematic solutions to the solvable problems I perceive to be plaguing human progress.
The following links will be added to, until there's nothing left to be done (I hope and intend).  I will indicate significant changes to this accumulator by placing version numbers up in the title, so you can quickly tell whether things are different since your last visit.
1.2  CITIZENS OF THE LARGER WORLD -- please note:  The Civic Mentor vision is GLOBAL in scope and thrust.  The patterns used to develop free products and services for my own home base -- are meant to be working models -- which can and will be adapted and transferred to suit every single community that desires it -- first, throughout the nation -- then, the world.  As the Mentor/ELMS Corporation becomes operational (c. 2016), pursuit of these goals can be accelerated.

2.  Social Networks, in General

2.1  Here are some interesting, relevant links and discussions concerning the Social Networking Concept, in general:
Social Network [Google search]
Social Network [A Wikipedia article about the theoretical concept as used in the social and behavioral sciences]
Social Networking Services [Google search]
   2.2  A USEFUL GENERAL EXPLANATION
Social Networking Service [Wikipedia discussion excerpt]   "A social networking service (also called SNS) is a platform to build social networks or social relations among people who share interests, activities, backgrounds or real-life connections.
  • A social network service consists of a representation of each user (often a profile), his or her social links, and a variety of additional services.
  • Social networks are web-based services that allow individuals to create a public profile, to create a list of users with whom to share connections, and view and cross the connections within the system.[
  • Most social network services are web-based and provide means for users to interact over the Internet, such as e-mail and instant messaging.
  • Social network sites are varied and they incorporate new information and communication tools such as mobile connectivity, photo/video/sharing and blogging.
  • Online community services are sometimes considered as a social network service, though in a broader sense, social network service usually means an individual-centered service whereas online community services are group-centered.
  • Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, pictures, posts, activities, events, interests with people in their network.

3.  First Batch of Sites to be examined for signs of Pittsburg Activity

3.1  In this preliminary phase -- over the coming months -- I envision developing accumulators that account for the Pittsburg presence, if any, on these sites -- not necessarily in this order: (So far, my focus is on Facebook -- in this version of this bulletin)

  • Facebook
  • Google+
  • YouTube
  • LinkedIn
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest
  • Vine
  • Tumblr
  • Twitter widely used worldwide
3.2  Next phase, we'll look at the rest of the world in some sensible order.

3.3  This Wikipedia "List of Social Networking Websites" should aid our efforts to be thorough

4.  Specific Pittsburg-Related Social Networking Services

USEFUL SELECTED LINKS TO HELP FIND PITTSBURG SNS's (I'll get back to this at first opportunity)

THOSE WHO WISH TO PROMOTE THEIR SOCIAL NETWORKING PAGES HERE (Facebook or otherwise),
MAY DO SO IN THE COMMENT SECTION, BELOW.
These can then be formally rolled-onto the link-lists.
In other words, the more help I get, the better the results.

5.  Serendipitous Discoveries

Pleasant surprises which may or may not fit the exact case, but seem exceedingly interesting subjects for further investigation will be accumulated here, for now -- here's this morning's first such find:

MEETUP: Find your people --www.meetup.com/ "Meetup helps groups of people, with shared interests, to plan events and facilitates off-line group meetings in various localities around the world."

PITTSBURG CALIFORNIA THEATRE (#3) -- Pet Comedy Theatre 11/11/14/ 7pm

Posted:  4 Nov 14
Change #1 - 5 Nov -- to inform you that all of the animals in the show are rescued animals (nice!)
Change #2 - 7 Nov -- to present a second delightful video and to point out that this link leads to even more of them  (oh, I'm getting even more excited about this)

Change #3 - 11 Nov -- After-action comment:  Show's over.  The California Theatre has done it again!  A fabulous show, with almost continuous clapping during the entire thing.  Wish there were more seats filled -- it didn't turn a profit, I'm sure -- but it sure was appreciated by those who attended.  I believe if it weren't scheduled on a pre-school night, more folks would have flocked to see something like this.  But, perhaps the troupe wasn't available at such a time.  Anyhow -- thanks Theatre Manager and neighbor, Crystal!  You did great for us!!!

Want a perfect, special way to end a day which commemorates those who have helped make Veterans Day, theater-going, and much else that matters, even possible?

Purpose

To publicize the "Pet Comedy Theatre" appearing at Pittsburg's California Theatre, at 7:00 pm, Veterans Day evening, 11 Nov.  All of the animals in the show are rescued animals (nice!)

Please click here for the pertinent event-details at the California Theatre website.

Be sure to explore the entire website
-- they have much in store to delight us.

Discussion

1.  Theatre management (thanks Crystal) put it this way. "There is no school on Veterans day, so there is no excuse to miss this performance."
In other words, this is going to delight children and families.  But, take a look at this FANTASTIC, EXCITING video -- and see if this isn't for EVERYBODY.  And this "Pet Comedy Theatre" is famous, having appeared on David Letterman, the Tonight Show and... well, see for yourselves (a must-see).
Just click here to see the exciting 3-minute video.  The decision to attend will become irresistible.
Just click here to see ANOTHER video (2.5-minutes) (thanks again, Crystal). This Youtube page also reveals a host of other different videos on this extraordinary achievement.  Should Mr. Popovich ever decide to teach this fabulous animal-training life-skill (if he's not already doing it) -- he'd make another fortune.  This is surely good for the cause of humans optimizing the species' treatment of other life-forms.

2.  The California Theatre has also arranged dinner specials with "world-famous" Lumpy's Diner, just a block away on Railroad Avenue, too.  Make it a special Pittsburg evening.

With our lovely "town" having gone-without for so long -- isn't a Community Theatre a truly welcomed adornment, well worth cherishing and supporting -- especially when it is being managed so creatively?

NEW CIVIC MENTOR BLOG!! ============= CITY-Level / Pittsburg,CA

Posted:  29 Aug 14

Purpose

1.  I am pleased to announce the beginning of the Civic Mentor bulletin board, dedicated to serving the People and City of Pittsburg, CA.  Please click here -- OR, for the long-term, click "Pittsburg" up in the horizontal menu bar (of this main bulletin board).

2.  The very first bulletin on the new blog will tell you more.  But, in a nutshell, this is the beginning.  Eventually, all things having to do with the City will generally no longer appear in this bulletin board, which must be developed for purely system-building and delivery and explanatory purposes.  For this blog -- AND THE CIVIC MENTOR CONCEPT -- are to serve our ENTIRE NATION -- and eventually, the ENTIRE WORLD.

3.  Since I won't be able to tend the new blog as closely as I desire, over the short-term -- I will begin to arrange for automatic updating by reliable, relevant information feeds -- in addition to my in-depth treatment of the topics -- as opportunity permits.

4.  PLEASE NOTE:  The new Police Department Bulletin Board link has been moved to the new City-blog's horizontal menu-bar and removed from this one.

Happy Friday, friends,

David Nelson
