NEW "CALIFORNIA THEATRE" WEBSITE! Open for Business!!!

Posted:  2 Oct 13

1.  Purpose

I am delighted to announce that an exciting new website for "The Gem of Old Downtown Pittsburg," The California Theatre, is now in service at the following URL:

Also, here is the Theatre's Facebook page.
Please visit and click "like."

On-line ticket sales are also up and running as of today!

2.  Discussion

Congratulations to Theatre Manager, Crystal Watts, for another fine piece of work.  This much-anticipated increase in public access -- into this community's proud, beautifully refurbished and capably managed public resource -- is also a much-welcomed one.

We can look forward to many years of added enjoyment in City living.

Now, we can all more easily discover upcoming events, the Theatre's interesting history, how to become theatre volunteers, how to rent the facilities, how to communicate with the management, and all the other things they need for us to know.

Be sure to subscribe to their newsletter (click here).  I will also try to help keep you abreast of developments through this City-Journal.

3.  Some Impacts

More nights out on the town for us!

Unique.
Beautiful.
Interesting.
Stimulating.
Economical.
A "city-as-a-destination" sweetener.
A boon to downtown businesses (and beyond).
Another special and pleasing place to take guests.
Another after-dinner choice, perhaps (or plan or impulse).
Another worthwhile way to convert a few hours into a refreshing break in the life-routines.
Another sensible option for holding our individual specialized events (community and otherwise).
Another way to encourage and relish the performing arts -- so fine a contribution to "a good life, well-lived."
Yet one more signal advance in the life and nature and reputation of the City.
For the cultural life continues to enrichen here.
Indeed it does.

All the result of the clear foresight and sheer effort of the City's people and allies -- who know how to love a place, deeply -- and nurture its health for the sake of all (at least that's my humble opinion).

4.  A Personal Experience to Share

My wife and I recently had a grand time at a free, sing-along showing of the movie, Grease.

Believe it or not, such a singing exercise was a novel experience for us.   You haven't lived till you've sat in a full theatre with an audience singing their hearts out -- and we all laughed and laughed together -- like a huge, happy family -- neighborhood -- community. (Wouldn't have known for sure, if the Theatre hadn't been there in the first place.)

The movie and sound were excellent. The surroundings sumptuous.  The words to the songs were provided as subtitles on the screen (in pink for ladies' voices and blue for the men's) -- except for the opening theme song by my all-time favorite, Frankie Valli of The Four Seasons ("Jersey Boys") fame.  I don't need to read the words to any of his songs -- and so I performed a solo, of sorts, (at least in my section) with great gusto.  From the next song, forward, the audience was in full swing.

Now that we know what's up with that, we expect to be regulars.  Hope to see you there.  Often!
