MAY IS OLDER AMERICANS MONTH!

Posted:  12 May 13
Ref:  USA.gov blog, (click here)

During "Older Americans Month" and throughout the year, we urge Americans to appreciate and celebrate the many contributions of older individuals to our society.

More than 9 million American seniors (ages 65 and older) are veterans of the armed forces and approximately 16% are in the labor force. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, about 1 in 3 volunteers is 55 years or older.

To older Americans: thank you for making a positive difference in our nation and in our communities!

All honor to these brave souls who place everything on the line, that we might continue to survive and pursue happiness.

"Greater love hath no man (or woman) than to lay down his (or her) life for a friend."

Anyone who does this (or risks this) is undeniably our friend -- such friendship lights a nation and adorns this world.

YES!! 4 JULY FIREWORKS IN PITTSBURG -- LEADERSHIP SHINES!!

FirstPosted:  25 Apr 13
Update #1: 6 May
Update #2: 8 May
Update #3: 8 May

8 May 13

GREAT NEWS!
THERE WILL BE FIREWORKS ON THE 4TH, AFTER ALL!!

Here is an excerpt from today's article by Eve Mitchell, Contra Costa Times:

The funding for the pyrotechnics show, which will be along the city's waterfront, is made possible from existing city fees charged to waterfront tenants that include Dow Chemical, USS-POSCO and NRG Energy.

"It's something we are very excited about," said Garrett Evans, assistant city manager, at a neighborhood meeting Tuesday at Marina Vista Elementary where city officials talked with residents about local projects and issues and answered questions about their concerns.

Thanks to all for saving the day -- brilliantly and generously!

0506 1000 -- SAD NEWS! Adrian Badger (owner, Steeltown Coffee & Tea) informed me that the fund-raising drive did not achieve its goals in time. Today was the deadline for getting the full amount to the pyrotechnics specialists. He says the funds, collected thus far, will be applied to next year's effort. Nice try, Adrian!

Editor's note:  This fund-raising drive was discussed in a previous PCJ bulletin on 30 Apr.

1.  This is a very worthy cause.  We need our LEGAL fireworks.  The children -- our new little patriots -- need to experience that traditional accent on the glorious national birthday -- as do we all.  If you can't make it to this event, donations will certainly help, in any case, to better celebrate our great good fortune of living in this land -- and the very good fortune for humankind, in the existence and nature of this blessed nation.

2.  Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7:30.  Please, no folks younger than 13.

[9:45 pm update:  It was a grand time.  This was our home town, feeling like a home town, doing a very fine thing, and having a blast -- a lot of that goes on here, I've noticed  -- lucky us!

Special thanks to Adrian Badger, owner of Steeltown Coffee & Tea, who is the driving force behind this effort to insure that the 4th is celebrated as the founders intended.  He is always producing good chain-reactions in and for the community -- and he deserves our grateful support.]

CONTENTS TABLE #1 ============ LIFE TOOLS & THREATS (Updated 5/30)

26 July 13 -- I'M RUNNING WAY BEHIND IN UPDATING THIS PAGE

Friends, as explained in my bulletin, "TEMPORARY SLOW-DOWN IN BLOG UPDATING -- an explanation," I am necessarily behind in my updating of things.  Yet, I really would like this page to be a sort of a "menu" of timeless bulletins.  I'll get back to updating as soon as I can, unless I figure out something even better.  Happy Friday to you all == D.Nelson

1.  Purpose

To list, all in one place, following this introduction, an accumulation of bulletins of an especially enduring character.

Specific accumulator-categories included below are:

    0.  GENERAL RESOURCES (all levels of news sources, City & County government, etc)
  1. Emergency & Disaster Readiness
  2. Health
  3. Education, Mental Development, & Self-Improvement
  4. Entertainment & Leisure
  5. Household, Home Life, & Safety
  6. Financial & Consumer Safety Issues
  7. The Military Services
  8. Politics
  9. Society, in General

2.  Background

a.  Many of these special bulletins were not placed on the seasonal "Blog Contents Tables" at the top of the bulletin board -- since those pages stress sequence.  You've probably noticed that I've been shifting many of these "orphans" around the bulletin board as I work on Version 2.0 of this City-Journal.

b.  This accumulator is the "next-to-the last step," on the way to a better presentation for these and future bulletins.  I must stabilize permanent locations for such as this, with easier and more logical interface access -- and ease of automation for my small "staff" -- and I shall.  That's one of the things Version 2.0 is about.

c.  Please remember that this entire blog is PRELIMINARY during these early years -- in mostly rough, imperfect draft form.  I find that the information just can't wait while I get "all my ducks in a row."  I simply MUST go public with this system-building tool (the PCJ), as-is, despite my discomfort at widely revealing apparent (and real) flaws in my work.  I often see them, but must keep pressing on with everything on my lengthy list, simultaneously.

d.  Also, you need to understand that, for now, this PCJ-component (of larger systems to come) is a "one-man show," so I have lots of balls I have to keep in the air at the same time.  Once things take hold, I will have something solid and sufficiently thought-out around which to build and empower a business organization, "The Mentor Enterprises / ELMS" (working title) to take over from me.  Then things will really fly toward completest fulfillment for us.  Meanwhile, I will install stand-alone systems and system-groups, as these become available -- for immediate use.  Later, the corporation will be responsible for refinement and perpetuation.

e.  Finally, as do we all, I have the usual human vulnerabilities -- the unexpected and unpredictable constraints and opportunities that scramble best-laid plans -- including needing a few days break, from time-to-time.  But "overcoming" is the order of the days, months, and years.  This is not an apology or complaint -- just giving you enough information (I hope) so you can better endure the wait for me to do all I've set out to do.
