September 12, 2014 - Each year our county's public school districts select Teachers of the YearElizabeth Lanfranki . Three expert committees, with representatives from education, business, and the community, choose two of 23 candidates to represent Contra Costa County in the state Teacher of the Year program. Last night Pittsburg Unified School District's Elizabeth Lanfranki won the 2014-2015 Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year Award. She teaches 6th grade English, AVID, and ELD at Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High School and her principal is Angela Stevens-Stevenson.

PUSD's Superintendent Dr. Janet Schulze enthusiastically said, "It is an honor to have Ms. Lanfranki represent Pittsburg Unified School District as the Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year! As a fourth-year teacher, Ms. Lanfranki is a stellar example of the high caliber of teachers we have in Pittsburg. I am extremely proud of her and the recognition she is bringing to the profession."

Principal Stevenson and County TOY Elizabeth Lanfranki Also in attendance at the award ceremony, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Abe Doctolero, remarked "Liz has been teaching for 4 years total, 3 in our district. She has been a standout teacher/leader from day #1. Our students are fortunate to have her as a teacher. I'd want my grandchildren in her class."

Principal Stevenson said, "Liz has the energy of three teachers. She is constantly seeking and finding ways to improve teaching and learning. She is a dynamic team player and she makes sure that no team is left behind. Liz shares strategies and techniques across curriculum teams. She shared a strategy called UNRAAVEL, which is now used school wide. Although, Liz teaches English Language Arts, teachers outside her curriculum observe her teaching. She has wonderful classroom management skills. She uses call and response techniques as attention getters. Her scholars are happy learning in her class and she enjoys every moment that she is teaching. This is evident in the work produced. Her style is consistent and she uses best practices every day. Her enthusiasm and expertise has influenced other teachers to improve strategies and techniques to create the same successes in their classrooms. Liz is truly an integral part of our school's academic and social success"
