HAPPY 236TH BIRTHDAY TO US ALL!!!!

STAY SAFE, HAPPY .... AND THANKFUL!

The founding fathers and the countless patriots who followed and took their example to heart, have bequeathed us with a priceless blessing -- a sort of "blessing-generator," which we get to fine-tune to suit the times -- and pass on, as an ever-improving model, to delight and advance the future generations.

Times have never been more complex than our time, but we've never had better tools for joining minds and spirits for the common good -- and when humans unite around good will (or, sadly, bad will), big things happen -- for better or worse -- though, better is best.

Happy 4th to every single one of us -- and to the unity which we, by all good fortune, happen to be!

David

City of Pittsburg: California Coolest City Challenge

California Coolest City Challenge
Posted Date: 7/2/2012

California's Coolest City Challenge

July is the last month to help Pittsburg qualify for the Cool California Challenge! Win a Solar Backpack and more!

You may have read in the Contra Costa Times or seen on your local news that Pittsburg is one of 10 cities competing to be California's Coolest City! The competition is easy and based on Pittsburg residences earning points for their daily actions. Every person who signs up automatically gets 100 points! More points are added after that for energy usage and transportation habits. Improving your habits will earn you bonus points each month, but you can also get Kudos Points for sending pictures of yourself doing fun things like riding your bike!

The whole program is internet based and the website is designed to create a fun atmosphere with competitions between groups and bonus activities. There is also a bi-weekly newsletter filled with tips, advice, and local information sent to every participant.

Right now Pittsburg is in 7th place, but at the end of July the 3 cities with the highest number of points will receive $10,000 for a community project and be able to continue on in the challenge with statewide support, sponsors, and activities. It is not too late to boost Pittsburg up to the Cool level we already know it is.

At the end of July the City will be raffling off a solar charging backpack, solar battery charger, and LED light bulb to one of our lucky participants. The more points you have the better chance you have of being our winner! Sign up today and encourage your friends, neighbors, family, and co-workers to join in on the fun as well.

Senator Boxer: Celebrating our Freedom on Independence Da

US Senator Barbara Boxer
News from Barbara Boxer, United States Senator from California
- - - - - NEWS FROM BARBARA BOXER, UNITED STATES SENATOR FROM CALIFORNIA - - - - -
July 02, 2012

Dear Friend:

On the Fourth of July, we celebrate not only America’s birthday but also the birth of our nation’s founding ideals as set forth in the Declaration of Independence.

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress met to approve Thomas Jefferson’s revolutionary statement “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Ever since that first July Fourth, Americans have worked to fulfill the promise of freedom embodied in the Declaration of Independence.

First the colonists had to fight a seven-year war of independence; then the principles of equality and freedom were tested and forged in the fire of Civil War.

In the 20th century, our ideals were again tested and strengthened by two world wars, the Great Depression, and the successive struggles for equal rights for all Americans.

In the 21st century, the Declaration of Independence continues to inspire those all around the world who struggle for freedom and democracy -- while spurring us here at home to create a more perfect Union by extending the blessings of liberty to all.

This Fourth of July, as we gather to share our picnics or watch the fireworks, let us once again celebrate the rights and freedoms that define us as a people and a nation.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator
